The piece
Each portrait starts as a full-size cartoon traced from Tedooo's design. The glass smalti and ceramic tesserae are cut with a hammer and hardie and set into lime mortar on a sealed birch panel, then grouted, cleaned and waxed.
The back carries a keyhole hanger and our signature.

Hung it in the hall opposite the door, on the assumption it would look flat in there. It does not. Every face of every tessera sits at its own angle, and around five in the afternoon the whole panel moves.
I have bought a lot of things that turned out to be printed board. This is mosaic; it has weight, and you can feel the grout between the pieces. The 30 cm is the right size for the wall by the stairs; the 50 would have taken it over.
No complaints about the mosaic at all. The crate took twelve days to reach Utrecht against an estimate of seven, and I would rather the estimate had just said twelve.
